Top 3 Things I Love About Cinematography

What More Can I Say?

While thinking about what I was going to write to accompany the video, I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go with it. I mean, the video kind of says it all. So what else is there to say?

In the end I decided to make a list of everything I love about cinematography and let the video talk about my top 3. That being said, here’s the list (in no particular order):

  • Being in the magic atmosphere of a well-constructed set - the lights, the wardrobe, the cameras, the dolly tracks. It’s really like another reality when you step into a work environment like this.

  • The feeling of accomplishment with a job well done

  • Being in charge of my own outcomes (the image is only as good as I make it)

  • Collaboration with other professionals like HMU, sound, grip, wardrobe, set design, and watching them do their thing that only they know how to do

  • The feeling when a project finishes and closes

  • The feeling when a new project begins - so many creative possibilities!

  • Playing with equipment - whether it’s new or old

  • The knowledge that one little decision can impact so much. For instance, moving a light 1’ to the right can have a dramatic effect on the image

All these things are the things that keep me going through good and bad times, feast or famine. It’s all about using my creativity, and film making offers so many possibilities.

That’s it. That’s the post. Again, I think the video says it all.

Happy Film Making!
